The Federal Building is a historical landmark located on the Alberta Legislature Grounds hosting public activities and Government and Legislature staff.
In 2010 the province decided to restore the vacant building. Part of the rejuvenation was the introduction of green roofs. ion designed a system connected to a water source located in a parkade mechanical room and ran piping inside throughout the building to penetrations into the green roof soft landscapes located on the parkade, second, third, and eleventh floors, providing irrigation to these rooftop landscapes. The irrigation system is operated automatically through the Legislative Grounds irrigation central control system.
